Aims

The aim of the conference is to report and discuss significant recent research and activities related to mathematical education. Traditionally this conference series has attracted researchers and educators from Baltic and Northern European countries. Working language of the Conference is English.

The basic themes

Teaching and learning mathematics:
Research on the content, methods, organisation and quality control of mathematics education at all levels. Mathematical, pedagogical, psychological, historical, biographical and other aspects of mathematics teaching.

Extracurricular activities in mathematics education
Research and reports on various aspects of  students' mathematics contests, mathematical clubs, groupwork, projects and web-based activities.

Professional and career development of mathematics educators
Research on various aspects of teacher education, training, professional development and evaluation.

Technology in mathematics education
Research of the use of information and communication technology in mathematics teaching and learning.

The scientific program includes plenary lectures (40 min) and contributed talks (20 min) organized in parallel sessions.

The abstracts will be published in the Conference Book of Abstracts and made available to Conference participants.

Conference materials

Selected papers of the Conference will be published in the Conference Proceedings by Daugavpils University. The full paper must be submitted before September 1, 2010.

All papers will be peer-reviewed.

Payment information

The registration fee is 50 EUR.  It covers Conference organization expenses, Book of Abstracts, 2 lunches at Daugavpils University, a social event, coffee breaks and an excursion. 

The fee for accompanying persons is 35 EUR. It covers 2 lunches at Daugavpils University, a social event, coffee breaks and excursion.

Conference Venue

Accommodation

Conference participants are offered to stay at different hotels in Daugavpils or a student hotel of Daugavpils University.

We recommend staying at Park Hotel Latgola (http://www.hotellatgola.lv) or Hotel Dinaburg  (http://www.hoteldinaburg.lv/).

Park Hotel Latgola is located close to Daugavpils University and offers 20% discounts for conference participants visiting the University. Reservations for Park Hotel Latgola can be made by phone +371 654 04900 (preferably) or email to reception@hotellatgola.lv . To get a discount conference participants should mention the conference code TM2010 at registration. Tentative prices without discounts per night start from 75 euro for a double room and 65 euro for a single room.

In case of a hotel reservation problem or any other kind of accommodation problem please contact organizing committee member Anita Sondore at anita.sondore@du.lv.

Those choosing to stay at the student hotel of Daugavpils University will be offered shared 2 or 3 person rooms for 5LVL+VAT 21% (about 9 EUR) per night. If you choose to stay at a DU student hotel please inform organizing committee member Anita Sondore at anita.sondore@du.lv before April 23, 2010.

Visa

Conference participants who need invitations for a visa application are asked to send us by email to anita.sondore@du.lv the following information before March 27, 2010:

1.      period of stay in Latvia (arrival and departure dates),

2.      address of stay in Latvia (Valnu 29, Daugavpils, if you plan to stay at the student hotel of Daugavpils University; Gimnazijas 46, Daugavpils, if you plan to stay at the Park Hotel Latgola, Daugavpils; another address, if you choose to make your own accommodation arrangements),

3.      legible scanned copy of passport, the expiration date of the passport must at least 3 months later than the visa expiration date, at least 2 visa pages must be vacant,

4.      place of birth (city, country),

5.      registered home address (in the language of your country and Latin letters),

6.      affiliation (without abbreviations) with full address and position,

7.      address of the Latvian diplomatic mission where you plan to apply for visa.
